Start With a Plan

As with all good marketing strategies, creating a plan should be the first step.

  1. Do a Brain Dump – Write down every blog post idea you have and keep the list handy for when you need help coming up with a topic. Do this often and remember to use common terms or phrases used in your niche or industry.
  2. Sort Your Ideas – Every blog should be sorted into categories. Categories help keep your content organized so your readers can easily find information on the topic they’re looking for. Creating a good user experience when they’re on your website will keep them engaged longer (which helps build the know, like, and trust factor) and will set you up to be the ‘go-to’ in the future when they’re looking for more solutions to their problems.
  3. Create an Editorial Calendar – This can be as simple as making a list of the topics you want to write about in the order you want to write them. Use the editorial calendar to keep you on track with your writing schedule.
  4. Start Writing!

How Often Should You Blog?

Being consistent is more important than the frequency that you release blog posts. If you can only write 1-2 blog posts per month, that’s ok. As long as you consistently release 1-2 posts every month you will still be able to share information with your audience and build credibility with your niche or industry.

Where to Find Topic Ideas

One great place to find topic ideas is Answer The Public. You simply enter your topic or keywords and within minutes, you will have hundreds of questions that people commonly ask about that topic. There is both a free and paid plan available. The free plan has a limited number of searches per month but with a couple of strategic searches, you should have enough blog post ideas for the next few months.

Another place to get inspiration is Google. Do a Google search on a topic or keyword that’s commonly used in your industry then scroll down until you come to a section that shows questions that people have most often entered into Google. Hint: Google usually starts with 4 questions but every time you click on one to expand it, more will be added to the list.

On The Table

Knowing what to blog about is a common problem amongst businesses that are new to blogging but it doesn’t have to be an overwhelming experience. With a little research and organization – and the tips in this blog post – you can easily come up with enough ideas to keep you writing for months.

Bonus tip: Once a blog post is published, it can be repurposed into social media posts, live videos, and even infographics giving you even more content to share with your audience!
