Engagement on social media is critical to an accounts growth. However, sometimes it can seem like our social media engagement is dead. Today we are going to share with you 4 ways to bring engagement back into your social media.

But first, let’s talk about what engagement on social media is.

Engagement comes in four forms:

  1. Reactions (likes, loves, sad face, etc)
  2. Comments
  3. Shares
  4. Direct Messaging

It used to be that if you received hundreds or thousands of likes, then your engagement was amazing and you could easily go viral!

Unfortunately, this is no longer true. You can’t rely on one form of engagement to make your social media accounts gain traction.

You have to have a combination of all four engagement types!

So what are some ways you can go about increasing your engagement on your social media?

Look for New Updates

If your engagement has been doing well and then all of a sudden tanks, you should probably check to make sure there haven’t been any new updates with that particular platform.

We all know how the algorithm changes several times a year! It doesn’t always affect engagement, but it’s still a good idea to stay up-to-date with these changes so you can be prepared to adjust your marketing strategy.

Check Your Posting Schedule

Sometimes when your engagement isn’t doing well, then it could mean that your posting schedule needs adjusted.

Maybe you are posting too much or maybe you aren’t posting enough!

Look at your analytics and insights. Is your audience online during the times that you are posting? If not, then you need to find out when they are online and start posting content then.

Utilize a Variety of Content

Is your content full of pretty quotes and memes?

Does your content consist of only text posts?

There are so many types of content that you can create. A good social media strategy utilizes a variety of content instead of focusing on one type.

This means that you should be adding videos, Instagram and Facebook stories, long form text posts, photos of yourself, short form text posts, etc.

For example, adding videos into your social media channels is a great way to speak to your audience and increase engagement! Every platform allows you to post video content (even Pinterest!).

It allows them to hear your voice and see your expressions. You can also share behind the scenes and sneak peeks into your life and business. This helps build the know, like, and trust factor with your audience.

Engagement is Two Ways

If you expect your audience to engage with you, then you need to engage with them!

  • Respond to their comments.
  • Ask them questions.
  • Create polls to get their opinions.

You can only form a relationship by both parties participating.
