UX in Social Media
by Rianna Neal | Rianna@PancakeDigitalSolutions.com
The first questions that may be coming through your mind right now are, what is UX and what does it have to do with social media? There are great questions! This is a topic that has not been discussed in so many words too often, but is an important one to bring to the table!
What is UX
UX is the abbreviation for user experience. Ironically, good UX design is not even noticed. This means the experience of use is not recognized. For example, think about a coffee shop. Let’s say you want to go eat some pancakes at your favorite local coffee shop. As you walk in do you notice anything? If the door is well designed you should just walk in and not even notice, but how many times have you pushed on a pull door and felt ridiculous. That is UX, the user’s experience.
What is Social Media
Social media is media where people can be social. In other words, socialize means to talk, communicate, share ideas and observe. Media is the platform this socialization occurs on, specifically websites and applications. For example, people share updates about themselves on Facebook that other people can respond to.
Why UX in Social Media
People have an experience using social media. While the layout of the newsfeed and how content shows up is already designed by the various platforms, the content is published, produced, and interacted with by the users. With this in mind, think before you post. How do you want users to interact with what you are posting? When they look at the image, what are you hoping they will gain from it? This is a great way to become significantly more intentional about what you are posting.
On The Table…
We may not have control over the design of social media, but we can control the content that we publish. Take a UX thought approach to your content creation and see how it builds!
