How to Pick the Right Social Media Platform for Your Business

If you are a new entrepreneur, business owner, or if you are just new to marketing your business online, it can be completely overwhelming choosing the right social media platform for your business.

But don’t worry! Pancake Digital Solutions has got you covered!

With this in mind, we’ve compiled a few ways for you to know how to pick the right social media platform for marketing your business.

First you must KNOW your audience!

Who are they? Are they women, men, either?

Are they teenagers, college students, middle-aged, retired?

Are they married or single? Do they have kids or no kids?

Think about as many aspects of their lives as you possibly can. You want to know who they hang out with, what clothes, foods, movies, etc that they like.

Once you know these things about your audience, you will know which platform (or platforms) to start your social media journey on.

For example, Facebook has more middle aged and retired people on it. While, Instagram has College-aged through middle-aged. And TikTok has mostly Tweens and teenagers (although it is starting to grow in popularity with the “older” generation).

Then you must have a CLEAR goal for social media.

Are you selling products? If so, then Pinterest and Instagram are usually your best bets…unless of course your audience is middle-aged to retirement-aged. Then you want to be on Facebook and Pinterest, instead of Instagram. But, if your products are makeup & skincare for tweens and teenagers, you are going to want to be on TikTok and probably Instagram.

Are you looking to build a community? Then Facebook is probably where you need to be. If you are looking to grow a tight-knit community around your services or products, then you want to create a Facebook group and start SHARING your knowledge, showcasing your products, and offering incentives and discounts exclusively to your group members!

This last one might surprise you….you DO NOT need to be on ALL the platforms. At least not yet…

There is no denying that social media is TIME CONSUMING if done correctly! Where we see a lot of businesses fail is because they think they need to be on ALL the platforms RIGHT NOW!

That is simply not the case.

In fact, we recommend that you start with only ONE platform.

Yes, you read that right! Just ONE!

Now, the reason we suggest this, is because if you try to start too big too soon, you will end up burning out and then not doing well on any platform.

Start with:

  • A platform you are more familiar with
  • Where your audience is
  • Where you will meet your goals (brand awareness, selling products, building a community, etc)
