Social Media Predictions for 2018

Our Social Media Predictions for 2018 are primarily a growth of certain things we have seen a lot of this past year. While overall the best thing you can do on social media is to provide good content that is useful to your users, the nuances of how to do this change year to year- or sometimes day to day! Here is our gander of social media things for 2018!

More Live Video

Video was the name of Facebook marketing game in 2017, capping off with an increase in live videos. This will only increase in 2018. Live video is an incredibly powerful tool for social media, bringing personality to business. Despite periscope never fully taking off, Facebook Live and Instagram Live have found increasing viewership.

More Complex Advertising

The types of ad placements and types of online advertisements grew in 2017, and will be a huge part of 2018. The one ad placement I have noticed the most is within my messenger app. I want to be annoyed by this, but so far the ads have all been incredibly relevant and things I ended up buying. So, someone really knows what they are doing. There has also been an increase in Canvas ads and Video Ads. I am predicting more advanced ads like these.. and perhaps more augmented reality ads like 19Crimes...

Facebook TV

There have been a few attempts of this over the last decade but a more successful attempt seems to be growing. If you search for FacebookTV, a plethora of confusing apps, articles, and pages will appear. I think they will get a hold of this and optimize with Facebook Live into some sort of TV equivalent.

Twitter for Business

Of all Social Media Predictions for 2018 this one may be a bit far-fetched, but not unwarranted. Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and LinkedIn all have separate profiles for personal and business. Twitter is the last holdout where all accounts are created equal. While Twitter has ads and was the original data guru of all social media platforms, they have not updated or adapted in years. Twitter will need to make some changes, likely to attract businesses with money. It will be interesting to see!
